A detailed guide on Minions and Minion Horde comparison. It all depends on your preference!
People have always debated which version is better. Although Minion Horde may seem to be more effective at first, I personally believe that Minions is a wiser choice in most cases. I will compare these units based on these criteria: Elixir efficiency, DPS, Defensive Capabilities and Capabilities of being countered.
Note: Both of them have the same stats if being equivalent in level.
|Elixir Efficiency||3 elixir for 3 minions||5 elixir for 6 minions|
|DPS||High||= 2x Minions|
|Defensive Capabilities||High||= 2x Minions|
|Capabilities of being countered||The same|
Minions Is Still Better Than Minion Horde IMO. Why?
I bet someone will ask themselves “How the fuck is that possible”. I know that feeling since every prior criterias I have mentioned supported Minion Horde all the way out.
The thing is, despite the fact that both of them are equivalent in regard to being countered by several cards, a single Zap, Arrows or even Fire Spirits can totally neutralize Minion Horde for a positive elixir trade. With only 2 or 3 elixir being traded for 5 elixir, this will make a huge difference in a real battle as you have to choose between keep deploying Horde to defend for seconds than being zapped or arrowed for negative trade, or save it on your hand forever and render it useless. Either ways are worst scenarios you can come across in Clash Royale.
More importantly, Zap is currently the best, the most versatile and the most used spell in current meta (See the most popular cards in top 100 decks). 9 out of 10 players would have this amazing spell in their decks (See the top common cards to upgrade guide), so including Minion Horde in a deck is highly risky. They would not hesitate to use it on your Horde for their advantages. It will be a different story when it comes to Minions. Most players will be likely to save their Zap/Arrows for other purposes as it is not worth using it on lone Minions.
So Which One Should You Choose?
That heavily depends on how much air defense you need, how susceptible the rest of your cards are to splash, your dps, and your average card cost. Weigh the pros and cons, try both, and go from there.
At Arena 4, Minion Horde is a great choice to counter tanks, provided that you can bait opponent’s Arrows first and know their counters. However, from Arena 5 and above, Minions is the best option for everyone.
