Despite being the second highest cost card in Clash Royale, Golem seems to be overshadowed by its counterparts in terms of tanking for other troops. Today I will bring to you guys a new Beatdown deck including the Golem + Poison combo in Clash Royale!
Overview: This deck would cause a lot of trouble to enemy’s Tower, in exchange to very high average elixir cost of 4.4. We have Golem and Poison as the only 2 Epic cards in this deck, along with 4 Rare cards which are Valkyrie, Musketeer, Mini P.E.K.K.A and Elixir Collector. There are also Arrows to deal with swarm troops and Archers to support our big push further.
Golem + Poison Deck Offensive Strategy
Play super defensive until it’s almost time for 2x then set up your golem push. I usually don’t show my golem or poison until that final minute and they panic to try to stop it. Drag and poison wipe most things out. Against a higher tempo deck, I may have to show hand earlier to counter the pressure.
Our big and wombo combo here would be Golem at the front, with Valkyrie right behind to clear cheap troops, along with Musketeer or Mini P.E.K.K.A to deal heavy damage and Poison on Tower plus defensive troops. However, I recommend you not to deploy it at the early stage, as you don’t know whether your opponent has counter or not, and you may have insufficient elixir for your next defense.
Depends on your play style, you can be either aggressive from the beginning to overwhelm your opponent, or be passive with Elixir Pump and defense first. As our deck is quite costly, I prefer being defensive and placing Pump to making a move first.
I suppose the hardest counter against Golem’s push is Inferno Tower. In that case, you should include Mini P.E.K.K.A in your horde to quickly take it down, as Golem can be rendered useless when being kited around.
During the double elixir time, you can now continually put pressure on enemy. Just remember to place as many Pump as you can to have sufficient resource for our constant push. With 2 Pumps, you are able to summon 2 Golems simultaneously if you can cycle through cards fast enough!
Because there is not many opportunities to deploy Golem, you should consider to keep putting pressure and attacking with Golem when your opponent counter push on the other lane. Keep in mind that “Losing a tower may be better than losing your attack”. Read our 5 Common Mistakes guide to know some basic winning tips in Clash Royale.
Golem Deck is really fun to play and somewhat strong, but they’re not easy to master so be ready to lose some games the first times you try them out.
Golem + Poison Deck Defensive Strategy
As you have to wait for your elixir/Pump, it is most likely that you will have to defend first. This is a tough task since your cards do not excel in defending.
Main defensive cores: Arrows, Archers, Valkyrie, Mini P.E.K.K.A.
Against Tank-Beatdown deck, Mini P.E.K.K.A should be used to take down the tank, while Valkyrie is capable of eliminating support troops behind the Tanks. Place Archers to kill the Tanks faster if necessary.
Spawner deck: Deploy your Golem combo on the other lane to avoid those huts, and they will have to split their troops to defend our push. Read the double 1 lane pressure strategy to know how to do this trick.
Hog cycle deck – The same as counter to Tank-Beatdown deck.
Air-Beatdown Deck – Drop down Archers and Musketeer BEHIND their combo to snipe off dangerous air units such as Balloon, and you can place Poison to slow them down if necessary. Be careful with your deploy position, as we do not want our troops to target the air-tank instead of air-threat.
Royal Giant – Mini P.E.K.K.A coupled with Musketeer can take him down quite fast enough.
Payfecta Deck – Anticipate the Miner position to pre-drop the Mini P.E.K.K.A in order to distract him, Mini P.E.K.K.A’s high damage will allow her to finish the Miner. Meanwhile, the Poison is hard counter against both Princess and Ice Wizard.

Golem + Poison Deck Tips
- Timing of placing Elixir Pump is crucial. It is not recommended to place it very early on, yet after a positive elixir trade or when your opponent plays quite passively. Drop down a Pump at the beginning of the match is also viable, although it is not a good option since your opponent can execute a push while you are lack of elixir, or they have Pump’s hard counters like Miner.
- Poison is a versatile spell in regard to both offense and defense. Use it wisely and try to poison as many units as possible.
